My 19th Birthday and other things

Monday, January 25, 2010

Sorry about the late blog post! :) It’s been a while since I wrote my last post (hence the embarrassed picture of Tsukasa), the new year has been keeping me busy so far. I’m afraid that when I go back to university on Thursday I will become even busier (there goes all my free gaming time!). Since my last post I revised for and took exams, as you can imagine that stopped me from doing many of the things I enjoy. One of the exams was about Language and Communication the other was Social Interaction. I hope I have done okay in them as I am not a big fan of exams (hey, who is?), I much prefer writing essays as I can put more thought into them. I have also been spending time with Chris as when we are busy with work we don’t have as much time together. We had to make the most of the free time we had!

On the 21st it was my 19th birthday and I had a brilliant day. I didn’t ask for anything in particular as a present from my parents so my mum took me on a shopping spree. She bought me Bare Escentuals makeup (2 kits worth!), Clinique skin care products and clothes from Jane Norman (jeans, a top and a coat) and H&M (a cute dress). My brother Greg bought me a white bag, a scarf and some sweet pearl bracelets. By the time I came home I was exhausted from all the shopping but still very excited.  Shopping is so fun with my mum.

Chris then came to my house later and gave me some presents from him and his parents. He had bought me four lovely rings from Wallis, the new Lost Prophets CD (The Betrayed), some sweets in a mushroom, a Zelda toy and his parents had bought me two Fruits Basket mangas. I was over the moon to say the least. He really knows my tastes. Thank you Chris!

I have to say though the best thing about birthdays is cake, I had a yummy chocolate cake for mine. However I would have preferred one of mum’s home made ones. Oh well, just means I will have to pester her to make one or make one myself!

I saw the Sherlock Holmes film with Chris as well. It was pretty good, not one of the best films I’ve seen but definitely one you should watch at home. I’m only trying to save you money on the price for tickets. Students like me have to budget things (yeah right, I bought Tales of Symphonia 2 for the Wii a few days ago not to mention all the manga I’ve bought…).  :)

Tales of Symphonia 2 is a good game though and that is what I’ve been playing lately (along with Muramasa). I made a gaming page for you to see what games I own and also what I am currently playing. You should check that out. I own more games for the Gamecube and DS but I couldn’t be bothered to list them all! *laziness* I do plan to write reviews for games but I think I will leave that for until I get further into the game. Sometimes my opinion changes the more I play a game. You will just have to wait and see.

I’ve been reading a lot of manga lately too, including Fruits Basket. I love the manga, it is so much better than the anime (well most mangas are!). I should probably read more intellectual books but sometimes I prefer a book that is light and doesn’t require too much concentration. I bet you are slowing losing your confidence in me as an English Language university student. I am a good student (honest!) it’s just I’ve been on this break too long. My body clock is all messed up.

Oh and before I forget here are the Emu boots I mentioned in my last post. They are super warm and perfect for keeping my feet snug. I recommend them to anyone who loves good quality boots.

Awesome boots.

Right I think I have sufficiently ranted on here, if you read all of this post you have earned yourself a cyber cookie. Enjoy! I expect my next post will come a lot sooner than this one has. :)

Bye for now.

Say hello to 2010

Friday, January 01, 2010

Happy New Year everyone!! I’m sure you are all sick of hearing that by now. We have all waved goodbye to 2009 and hopefully we will welcome 2010 with open arms. I’m just happy because now I can say the year twenty ten (you know that sounds cool!). I have been busy looking through my old blog archives to compile a list of good times from last year. It’s amazing how many things I have forgotten, thanks for saving me archives!  So here is my list of all the good things that happened in 2009 (including links to blog posts!):

2009 seems like it was a busy year for me and I hope that 2010 is going to be just as good and hopefully even better. I don’t usually make resolutions as I never seem to be able to stick to them or I forget them (my memory is terrible). This year I want to study hard for university to make the most out of it and I also want to cut back on the sweets I eat (this one is going to be tough!). So what are you new years resolutions and do you think you’re going to stick to them?

Oh and just before I go I would like to say:

Happy Birthday Chris!

It’s my boyfriend’s 19th birthday today! I’m going to go to his house later and give him his presents/cards. :)

So once more I’m going to say Happy New Year everyone! Hope you all had a good 2009 and I hope this year is even better for you all.

PS. My new Emu boots came today. I will post pictures in my next blog!

Christmas time, mistletoe and wine.

Tuesday, December 08, 2009

It is hard for me to begin writing a blog post after so long away from my website. I was sat at home today nearly falling asleep and just I was drifting in and out of my sleepy haze I thought: "Hmm, I haven't blogged in a while... ugh I shouldn't have eaten all those sugary cola bottles". Maybe you should forget that last part and maybe I shouldn't eat so many sweets. My dentist is going to have a fun time... Eek!

November has been a busy month for work, as I said in my last post I was writing an essay about human language. I managed to finish it and hand it in on time. I haven't yet received my mark for it but when I get it back I shall post it up here. I tried my best so I am really hoping for a good mark but if I pass I suppose I will be happy enough. Well I enjoyed writing it at the very least.

Also on the subject of university work, I completed a group presentation. It wasn't too bad apart from the fact I got slightly flustered and embarrassed. Hopefully no-one noticed even though I felt like my face was on fire and my heart was going to burst out of my chest. I don't enjoy speaking in front of a load of people, for some reason it makes me all nervous and I can't seem to say anything right.

University has been taking up a lot of my time but I do feel like I am finally getting settled there. I am finding my way around easily and I have already made some brilliant friends. It's a great big confidence boost as far as I'm concerned and gives me something to work towards. Now all I need to do is pass my driving test and my life will be complete. Speaking of driving I have had over 35 hours of driving experience so it shouldn't be too long now before I take my test. I'm getting excited just thinking about it (haha!).

I saw the film New Moon in November too and I found it to be pretty enjoyable. Then again, I'm not a hardcore film critic and I never will be. Bear in mind this is coming from a girl who loves chick flicks. So I recommend it to anyone who likes having a giggle and watching cool CGI wolves (I just love wolves). Chris took me to see it and I got to snuggle up with him which is always a plus.

Christmas is well and truly upon us now and I have been trying and failing at getting my shopping done. I just don't like being swamped in the shopping centre. But what I do love about Christmas is all the decorations, yummy home baking, presents, songs and ... mistletoe. I need to get some of that to ambush Chris with! I'm just joking, honest!

So I'm sorry for being away for so long and I shall try to keep up with my posts. Oh and just before I go, tell me one thing you like about Christmas. I want to compile a list! hehe :)

Essay: Is human language innate?

Sunday, November 15, 2009

Well as I said in my previous brief post I have been busy with university work. I'm currently writing an essay about whether human language is innate. It has been a productive day today as I have reached my target amount of work today and done above and beyond really. My mum has been really supportive throughout all of this and so has Chris so I would like to take this opportunity to thank them both. I don't think I could have done it without them. :)

Cute pink phone

Saturday, November 07, 2009

I've been studying my grammar book, Rediscover Grammar by David Crystal, today and have been trying to understand noun phrases, prepositional phrases and so on. It is a lot more complicated than you think it is because I didn't really do a lot of grammar in school. I can only say that I learned the basics in primary school and that is about as far as it went really. I'm glad that the book is broken down into small sections instead of huge walls of text (that would really give me a headache!). Apart from that, today has been pretty relaxing. I feel like I have finally caught up on my sleep so I should feel refreshed to do some more work tomorrow. (^.^)

I've also been looking at phones on the Internet and I think I have decided on one I like...

It is called the Samsung Genio Touch and it is a pretty cute touch screen phone. I love Samsung as a brand and this phone is a brilliant price too. What I like about it is that it has a normal T9 keypad on it for texting instead of a Qwerty keypad. Don't get me wrong, I do like Qwerty keypads it is just that I prefer T9 keypads for texting. I guess I'm weird like that. (^.^);;

It has a modest 2mp camera which is fine for me as I don't take loads of photos anyway and it takes pretty decent pictures. It also has a radio on it which I'm super happy about because my old phone doesn't have one (I love listening to the radio! haha).

If you want to view its full specs then go to this website.

Also here is a video review I found:

It is not too detailed but you can see the phone in action. I think it is going to be a good phone for me as I don't really want to be paying a lot for a new phone. My student budget owns my soul. (T.T)

Let me know what you think!

Bye for now.

Bonfire Night

Thursday, November 05, 2009

Just a quick blog tonight. I think that things are picking up. Today wasn't so bad, I had a laugh in my seminars today and the person who I was talking about is being nice to me. I will keep you all updated of course. Thank you to everyone who has been wishing me well (especially, Shola, Christine and Rose).

Happy Bonfire Night everyone, hope you all had a good time. I just stayed at home, it's too cold to go outside in my opinion! I think the autumn weather is getting to me. I really need to go and buy a winter coat before it gets even colder. British winters are brutal you know! (^.^);;

Take care!

Good Morning (?)

Thursday, October 22, 2009

omnom Do you ever find that the longer you sleep in the more tired you are when you wake up? For instance this morning when I woke up at 10:30 I found myself feeling just as tired as I would do if I woke up at 7:30. I don’t understand. Surely more hours of sleep equals more awake…ness? Maybe its my internal clock telling me that I’ve have too much sleep and therefore I must be punished.

So this morning I woke up with my hair stuck up at a weird angle and my eyes welded together by sleep. I slowly opened my eyes and shifted my gaze to my pink clock; 10:30 was staring back at me. Stupid clock. It must have been wrong, I still felt sleepy. I turned over in my bed and snuggled in the folds of my duvet. It was so warm and cosy. It practically felt like a sin when I had to stick my foot out of my bed and put it on the cold wood floor.

I sat up and bravely put my other foot on the floor and shivered a little. The worst part was yet to come. I slowly peeled the duvet off and felt a sudden rush of cold.  I quickly moved myself away from my bed (so I wouldn’t chicken out) and turned back to look at it with a tear in my eye. Don’t worry I wasn't crying, I had just yawned and my eyes were watering.

I tip-toed around my bedroom and began opening the curtains. Sunlight darted across the floor and slowly began to wake the rest of my room up.  I felt awake at last. I gave in to one final stretch and caught sight of myself in the mirror.

“What is going on with my hair? Are those eye crustys? What should I have for breakfast… ”.

Don’t you just love mornings.

*

University today was a blur, to say the least. Maybe it is the fact that I have been struck down by a sore throat, thick headache and stuffy nose. Having a cold can seriously effect my ability to concentrate. I found myself staring quite misty eyed at my lecturer and allowing all sorts of random thoughts to pop into my head.

“Oh look at that bus outside, it says Free Bee on it. Haha I get it, its a play on the expression freebie. I love how they’ve drawn a cute little bee on it too. It looks happy”.

My lecturer coughed and I shuffled in my seat. I was sort of doing little shuffles every now and then to generate heat. It was pretty cold in the room and I thought that it is only going to get colder when winter decides to come into full swing. I sniffled and decided to distract myself from that depressing thought. I glanced at the girl on the opposite side of the room. She had a bottle of some sort of energy drink in front of her, well I’m guessing that it was an energy because it was electric blue (either that or our water has become so polluted it has turned neon).

I turned back to the lecturer and he was continuing to talk about word classes and other grammatical things. I used all my willpower trying to listen to him and trying to make him interesting, but to no avail. Unfortunately no matter how much I tried I couldn’t make nouns, verbs and adjectives seem like a trip to Disneyland.

*

I arrived home after the intense mind-numbing session… I mean I arrived home after university at 6:00. I stumbled my way through the front door and clumsily took off my boots. I could hear the faint babble on the TV from the kitchen and made my way in.

My mum was busying herself cleaning and as always the kitchen look immaculate.

“Now you wouldn’t get this in student accommodation”, I thought and I plonked myself down at the table.

I promptly told my mum about my extremely long day and by the end of our conversation I felt lighter. My mum hugged me and I soon felt like it was only the start of my day. I was refreshed.

“Now if only I could bottle that and market it as some sort of aid to waking up in a morning”.

Of course I’m joking.

I am a morning person.

It’s just that my mornings start later…

It begins

Wednesday, September 23, 2009

Well I finally enrolled at university yesterday. Today I went in for a few social activities and I have decided that it is time to fill you all in on how it is going!

 Sheffield Hallam University

Yesterday I arrived at Sheffield Hallam University (SHU) with mixed emotions. I was nervous because the building was huge, however I was excited because it was the start of my student life. I was also impressed that the whole thing seemed to be organised (I didn’t get swept into the crowd!). There were lots of people around to help so I soon began to feel more confident in my surroundings.

Blackwell Bookshop SHU is not just one building but more like a block of buildings which are close together which makes it seem like one huge building. I loved the bookshop (Blackwell) that was right next to the university, all the crisp new books just waiting to be read! I actually treated myself to a book while I was there entitled Language:The Basics by R.L.Trask. There were other books that I wanted too, including a grammar book by David Crystal. I was surprised to find that they even had a manga section (that is such a bad distraction for me!).

The first activity of the day was the welcome assembly in which a few course leaders introduced themselves then it was time to enrol (after a 3 hour break in which I explored the shops!). The enrolment process went pretty smoothly, the only annoying thing was the queue I had to stand in for 20 minutes (I really hate queuing). An administrator signed my enrolment form and checked that all my grade certificates were okay before letting me proceed to get my student card.

My student card is really cool because it allows me to get discounted travel, get into certain clubs as well as other perks I have yet to discover. Everyone was complaining how they looked bad in their photos on the cards because the pictures were taken by a webcam on the same day (let’s just say it was a particular windy day). Mine doesn’t look so bad but then again I have had worse experiences with ID cards. My student card

After collecting my student card I was free to go home for the day, it was great because it was only early in the afternoon. I walked some of the way with Chris and we got a lift home the rest of the way. I took a few pictures of us out and about. I also grabbed a classic hot chocolate from Starbucks (with cream!).

Today was mainly activities in which we were meant to socialise with out peers and course leaders. I also have found out what my timetable is like and it is nice. I have every alternate Monday off which is brilliant because I hate waking up on Mondays with a passion.

Me looking shy and in need of a haircut! :P

Tomorrow I have a couple of class activities to do and then I finish at 12 noon leaving me free to enjoy the activities/societies fair. Hopefully there will be some I can join as I really want to get involved with lots of fun things. I would need to join something which I can plan around my studying and driving lessons.

Don’t worry as I will keep you updated on Kihugs and on my Twitter page.

So I shall take my leave now as I don’t want to stay up too late tonight. I will leave you with a final picture of me looking shy for whatever reason (credit goes to Chris for taking the picture!).

Bye bye! :)

PS: Contestants are still needed for the Site Glamour Contest. It is hosted by Dayna at Amour Chaleur and there are lots of prizes to be won!

Hallam, here I come!

Tuesday, September 08, 2009

complex72 Clicking the "New Post" button just gave me tingles. Seriously, it has been that long since I last blogged cobwebs are forming on my Blogger Dashboard. I think it is time I brushed them off, gave my blog a dust down and got back in the blogging spirit.

The one thing which has probably effected how much I have blogged is the summer. The summer months are a brilliant time for students, a time in which we relax and energize ourselves for the up coming academic year. Unfortunately in my case this just simply means lazing around all day.

Fear not for while I have not been blogging I have been busying myself with other activities. For example my driving lessons, which have been going pretty well. Hopefully you will have seen me driving around (I know I have an awesome I-am-concentrating face).

I have also been hanging out a lot with Chris. During such times we have either eaten out, been shopping, watched films, played on my Wii or his Xbox or just generally mooched around.

My exam results came back from college on the 20th of August. It was a great day simply because I got the results I needed and also because I was interviewed for our local radio. My reaction to opening my exam results was played on the radio to I don't know how many homes. It doesn't get much more exciting than that!

My exam results were:

  • English Language - B
  • Media Studies - B
  • ICT - B
  • Archaeology - C

You will agree that those are great results yes? I worked so hard in my final year at college so I feel I thoroughly got what I deserved. :)
I am now preparing myself for university which starts on the 22nd of September with my induction day/enrolment. I plan to take pictures and of course I will write a blog documenting the day!

I got into my first choice of university which is the Sheffield Hallam University. I am going to study (BA Hons) English Language as a full time degree. I can't wait! The student union looks brilliant too, I actually want to get my own little hoodie (which they have available in pink!).

So wish me luck for uni. The plan is to study hard and party hard (maybe not so much of the latter! haha).
