Good Morning (?)

omnom Do you ever find that the longer you sleep in the more tired you are when you wake up? For instance this morning when I woke up at 10:30 I found myself feeling just as tired as I would do if I woke up at 7:30. I don’t understand. Surely more hours of sleep equals more awake…ness? Maybe its my internal clock telling me that I’ve have too much sleep and therefore I must be punished.

So this morning I woke up with my hair stuck up at a weird angle and my eyes welded together by sleep. I slowly opened my eyes and shifted my gaze to my pink clock; 10:30 was staring back at me. Stupid clock. It must have been wrong, I still felt sleepy. I turned over in my bed and snuggled in the folds of my duvet. It was so warm and cosy. It practically felt like a sin when I had to stick my foot out of my bed and put it on the cold wood floor.

I sat up and bravely put my other foot on the floor and shivered a little. The worst part was yet to come. I slowly peeled the duvet off and felt a sudden rush of cold.  I quickly moved myself away from my bed (so I wouldn’t chicken out) and turned back to look at it with a tear in my eye. Don’t worry I wasn't crying, I had just yawned and my eyes were watering.

I tip-toed around my bedroom and began opening the curtains. Sunlight darted across the floor and slowly began to wake the rest of my room up.  I felt awake at last. I gave in to one final stretch and caught sight of myself in the mirror.

“What is going on with my hair? Are those eye crustys? What should I have for breakfast… ”.

Don’t you just love mornings.

University today was a blur, to say the least. Maybe it is the fact that I have been struck down by a sore throat, thick headache and stuffy nose. Having a cold can seriously effect my ability to concentrate. I found myself staring quite misty eyed at my lecturer and allowing all sorts of random thoughts to pop into my head.

“Oh look at that bus outside, it says Free Bee on it. Haha I get it, its a play on the expression freebie. I love how they’ve drawn a cute little bee on it too. It looks happy”.

My lecturer coughed and I shuffled in my seat. I was sort of doing little shuffles every now and then to generate heat. It was pretty cold in the room and I thought that it is only going to get colder when winter decides to come into full swing. I sniffled and decided to distract myself from that depressing thought. I glanced at the girl on the opposite side of the room. She had a bottle of some sort of energy drink in front of her, well I’m guessing that it was an energy because it was electric blue (either that or our water has become so polluted it has turned neon).

I turned back to the lecturer and he was continuing to talk about word classes and other grammatical things. I used all my willpower trying to listen to him and trying to make him interesting, but to no avail. Unfortunately no matter how much I tried I couldn’t make nouns, verbs and adjectives seem like a trip to Disneyland.

I arrived home after the intense mind-numbing session… I mean I arrived home after university at 6:00. I stumbled my way through the front door and clumsily took off my boots. I could hear the faint babble on the TV from the kitchen and made my way in.

My mum was busying herself cleaning and as always the kitchen look immaculate.

“Now you wouldn’t get this in student accommodation”, I thought and I plonked myself down at the table.

I promptly told my mum about my extremely long day and by the end of our conversation I felt lighter. My mum hugged me and I soon felt like it was only the start of my day. I was refreshed.

“Now if only I could bottle that and market it as some sort of aid to waking up in a morning”.

Of course I’m joking.

I am a morning person.

It’s just that my mornings start later…
