It begins

Well I finally enrolled at university yesterday. Today I went in for a few social activities and I have decided that it is time to fill you all in on how it is going!

Yesterday I arrived at Sheffield Hallam University (SHU) with mixed emotions. I was nervous because the building was huge, however I was excited because it was the start of my student life. I was also impressed that the whole thing seemed to be organised (I didn’t get swept into the crowd!). There were lots of people around to help so I soon began to feel more confident in my surroundings.
SHU is not just one building but more like a block of buildings which are close together which makes it seem like one huge building. I loved the bookshop (Blackwell) that was right next to the university, all the crisp new books just waiting to be read! I actually treated myself to a book while I was there entitled Language:The Basics by R.L.Trask. There were other books that I wanted too, including a grammar book by David Crystal. I was surprised to find that they even had a manga section (that is such a bad distraction for me!).
The first activity of the day was the welcome assembly in which a few course leaders introduced themselves then it was time to enrol (after a 3 hour break in which I explored the shops!). The enrolment process went pretty smoothly, the only annoying thing was the queue I had to stand in for 20 minutes (I really hate queuing). An administrator signed my enrolment form and checked that all my grade certificates were okay before letting me proceed to get my student card.
My student card is really cool because it allows me to get discounted travel, get into certain clubs as well as other perks I have yet to discover. Everyone was complaining how they looked bad in their photos on the cards because the pictures were taken by a webcam on the same day (let’s just say it was a particular windy day). Mine doesn’t look so bad but then again I have had worse experiences with ID cards.
After collecting my student card I was free to go home for the day, it was great because it was only early in the afternoon. I walked some of the way with Chris and we got a lift home the rest of the way. I took a few pictures of us out and about. I also grabbed a classic hot chocolate from Starbucks (with cream!).
Today was mainly activities in which we were meant to socialise with out peers and course leaders. I also have found out what my timetable is like and it is nice. I have every alternate Monday off which is brilliant because I hate waking up on Mondays with a passion.

Tomorrow I have a couple of class activities to do and then I finish at 12 noon leaving me free to enjoy the activities/societies fair. Hopefully there will be some I can join as I really want to get involved with lots of fun things. I would need to join something which I can plan around my studying and driving lessons.
Don’t worry as I will keep you updated on Kihugs and on my Twitter page.
So I shall take my leave now as I don’t want to stay up too late tonight. I will leave you with a final picture of me looking shy for whatever reason (credit goes to Chris for taking the picture!).
Bye bye! :)
PS: Contestants are still needed for the Site Glamour Contest. It is hosted by Dayna at Amour Chaleur and there are lots of prizes to be won!

Clicking the "New Post" button just gave me tingles. Seriously, it has been that long since I last blogged cobwebs are forming on my Blogger Dashboard. I think it is time I brushed them off, gave my blog a dust down and got back in the blogging spirit.
