It begins

Well I finally enrolled at university yesterday. Today I went in for a few social activities and I have decided that it is time to fill you all in on how it is going!

Yesterday I arrived at Sheffield Hallam University (SHU) with mixed emotions. I was nervous because the building was huge, however I was excited because it was the start of my student life. I was also impressed that the whole thing seemed to be organised (I didn’t get swept into the crowd!). There were lots of people around to help so I soon began to feel more confident in my surroundings.
SHU is not just one building but more like a block of buildings which are close together which makes it seem like one huge building. I loved the bookshop (Blackwell) that was right next to the university, all the crisp new books just waiting to be read! I actually treated myself to a book while I was there entitled Language:The Basics by R.L.Trask. There were other books that I wanted too, including a grammar book by David Crystal. I was surprised to find that they even had a manga section (that is such a bad distraction for me!).
The first activity of the day was the welcome assembly in which a few course leaders introduced themselves then it was time to enrol (after a 3 hour break in which I explored the shops!). The enrolment process went pretty smoothly, the only annoying thing was the queue I had to stand in for 20 minutes (I really hate queuing). An administrator signed my enrolment form and checked that all my grade certificates were okay before letting me proceed to get my student card.
My student card is really cool because it allows me to get discounted travel, get into certain clubs as well as other perks I have yet to discover. Everyone was complaining how they looked bad in their photos on the cards because the pictures were taken by a webcam on the same day (let’s just say it was a particular windy day). Mine doesn’t look so bad but then again I have had worse experiences with ID cards.
After collecting my student card I was free to go home for the day, it was great because it was only early in the afternoon. I walked some of the way with Chris and we got a lift home the rest of the way. I took a few pictures of us out and about. I also grabbed a classic hot chocolate from Starbucks (with cream!).
Today was mainly activities in which we were meant to socialise with out peers and course leaders. I also have found out what my timetable is like and it is nice. I have every alternate Monday off which is brilliant because I hate waking up on Mondays with a passion.

Tomorrow I have a couple of class activities to do and then I finish at 12 noon leaving me free to enjoy the activities/societies fair. Hopefully there will be some I can join as I really want to get involved with lots of fun things. I would need to join something which I can plan around my studying and driving lessons.
Don’t worry as I will keep you updated on Kihugs and on my Twitter page.
So I shall take my leave now as I don’t want to stay up too late tonight. I will leave you with a final picture of me looking shy for whatever reason (credit goes to Chris for taking the picture!).
Bye bye! :)
PS: Contestants are still needed for the Site Glamour Contest. It is hosted by Dayna at Amour Chaleur and there are lots of prizes to be won!

LOL I sure made myself hungry!
Thank you! I guess she's really curious, naturally. But yeah, I don't like thinking about it too much! :P
Woo, enrolment is always fun... hahah. Just a quick question, are you and Chris attending the same university? :)
My university is full of different buildings. They aren't really obviously connected. Some are across the road, some are further into the city.
We have a bookshop at uni but I can guarantee you that it isn't as interesting as yours. It's quite small. :S
We get discount on transport with our student card but other than that, nothing else. There is this program you can join for 90 dollars, which has a lot of savings and stuff. It isn't really worth it because I don't use all the savings haha.
I'm jealous! Your student card picture actually looks good! I look like a freaking Zombie in mine! :P
Cool, I am glad enrolment went well. Lots of people always complain about how long it take to enrol and such. (: Blackwells is one of those stores where I look at but never go into. Kinda like certain Chinese stores on London Road.
Yours student card pictures looks lovely so you are extremely lucky to get it like that as it's valid for 2012! Imagine if it was like your bus pass? I would cry AGAIN of laughter.
And congrats for enabling twitter VIA text on your phone. :) Keep postings. <3
Haha it got me cracking up too; and the movie is really humourous. :D
Awww, Lilo and Stich - so cute! I'm sure it's Disney - but I love The Fox and The Hound. It was the first movie I ever saw, I was about five or six, and I cried! T_T
I have read War of The Worlds; quite an epic book as well. Haven't seen the movie though. :P
Haha Grease was on TV tonight. I think it's a great movie as well.
AWW! *hugs* That's really awesome though. I'm glad James and I go to the same uni as well. :3 Lilian (my best friend) and I don't, but we talk every single day! :O
Ah if I didn't choose to do advance in my school I would be going to university and I could relate xD
The university sounds really similar to what we have here, its like a little town xD and I love the bookstore as well. Its really cool there's a manga section, a big distraction indeed. I'm envious, manga is extremely rare here!
And your student card is pretty ^0^ There's a lot of benefits using that here as well, especially when it comes to clubs and parties xD
My university is really small because it's a city campus. There are basically only 4 rooms. Looking at yours, I'm so envious. I wish I could study in such a huge and grand looking university.
Your student card looks fine, at least it's made of hard plastic. Mine is just a piece of paper laminated with plastic. Sigh.
All the best! I hope you have fun at school. :)
Your Uni looks like mine! n.n Very similarly styled I should say, as opposed to looks like.. anyways, that's awesome that you're feeling confident about being on campus, I was a nervous wreck my first day of living on campus. That book you picked up sounds very interesting, I love books about languages, mine or others :o)
Thank you *HUGS* I'm starting to feel a bit better, but it still hurts to swallow. I'm having honey over and over. :P
Haha I hope so. I am just annoyed that the cash prize I get is actually not enough for the iPhone because it is VERY expensive in Australia (800 dollars compared to 200 in the US, woah).
There actually are a ton of sites that are down, which also explains to me why I'm getting less comment. XD
My hair is also just past my shoulders; I quite like it that length. I used to have very short hair but it wasn't really my style.
Sounds like everything's going really well with starting uni! You have such a structured sort of enrolment process too by the sound of things - starting uni here in Australia is such a disorganized frenzy in comparison, lol! The campus looks nice too, very modern and good facilities too from what I can gather. Lucky!
Anyway, hope it all continues to go well for you...particularly once you're settled into your classes and have to start real work, hehe. Oh, and cute photo btw! You do look a bit shy, lol. Not fond of cameras? (Don't worry, I'm not much either!)
