Summer is the season of love
Thursday, June 25, 2009
Its the Summer! Woo! I’m free from college now, all my exams were finished on the 18th of June. I’ve been too busy having fun to notice that I haven’t blogged, but I’m back now ready to rant like I’ve never ranted before (just kidding!).
Summer has finally begun, the most long awaited season of them all. The season that you dream about as you idly stare out the window in class (well maybe its only me that does that). Summer means relaxation. Long lazy days in which you have nothing to do but it makes you feel happy because you know that if you were still in school/college/university you would be working at that moment in time.
Summer is the time for partying and taking it easy with friends. I have been to a few parties already and they really do help you to loosen up and have fun with friends. Summer is also the time to pamper yourself and take time to do things you’ve been wanting to do but have never had the time to do.
Often after a couple of weeks summer can seem like a drag. Friends are hard to get in contact with because they are out doing their own thing but I say it doesn’t have to be! Here are a few of my Summer Blues Busters:
1) Get a hobby.
I know this phrase is a little cliché but trust me it really does kill the summer blues. I enjoy cross stitching (when I have the time), reading/writing, gaming and loads of other things. So I take all my free time in the summer to catch up on the hobbies I missed out on during the academic year.
2) Have day trips.
Being a student it can be costly for me to afford to go away on holiday but that doesn’t stop me! Small trips to the seaside or countryside are a lot less costly than going on holiday and can be just as fun. I love looking in souvenir shops for cute things I can bring back for friends and family.
3) Learn something new.
Now that you have more time you could pick up a language book and have a go at learning phrases in another language. I can’t drive yet so the type of language I’m interested in is the Highway Code! Teach yourself how to make a new meal perhaps or have a go at baking yummy cakes and treats. The best part is you get to eat them afterwards!
4) Get active.
Its easy in summer to turn into a little bit of a couch potato and be tempted by all the wrong kinds of food. Well who can blame us when there are ice-creams in the freezer! You don’t have to join a gym but I recommend playing a sport you like. I will be going to play badminton with Chris and swimming with him this summer. Its even better if you have a friend to go with you as you can both get active together and have fun! I always like exercising with someone else as it gives me a chance for a good chat.
5) Its the season of love so be positive!
A lot of people get down in the summer because they have yet to find that summer romance. Don’t let these feelings hold you back. There is one person who deserves your love more than anyone else and that is you! Remember to look after yourself. Take a day to pamper yourself. You don’t have to go to a fancy spa. You could buy some face packs or give yourself a pedicure. Then sit down and watch one of your favourite DVD’s.
These are just a few suggestions, whatever you do I’m sure you’ll make the most of your summer! Remember the summer is your time to get refreshed and ready for the new academic year so don’t stress out too much. If you have any more suggestions on beating the Summer Blues then I would love to hear them in the comment section.
Take care!
